To all of my fellow cat parents, if you've found your way here then know that you're NOT alone! Aggression between fur babies can be a thing of nightmares, especially when they go from being best buddies to mortal enemies overnight - trust me, I've experienced it all. The dread, the anxiety, the frustration, the upset, the sleepless nights, hour upon hour of researching the same questions over and over again. Why are my cats fighting? Will my cats ever get along? How do I prevent cat aggression? Why is one cat attacking the other? Not to mention the internal turmoil.... What am I doing wrong? What am I doing right? Am I helping or hindering the situation? Should I leave them to it? Am I intervening too much? Argh, the stress keeps piling up! Any parent who's faced or is currently facing these challenges, anyone who's overcome or yet to overcome those challenges, I invite you to read on and join a community of feline fans. My story is a chance to share all of my knowledge and tips in one place and, hopefully, create a space for cat parents to support and encourage each other on a journey that's far more common than we think. In my research I've come across people who've cancelled holidays due to fighting cats, and even couples sleeping in different rooms in cases where cats have been separated. Inter-cat aggression can affect people, families and households in a multitude of ways, but we all have one thing in common: boundless love for our pets. Sadly, not all stories will end in success, but I'm here to tell you that focusing on the negatives won't help you any more than it'll help your cats! I believe that patience, persistence and understanding are key in helping to resolve feline conflict, and fortunately there are many steps you can take at home - but be prepared to put the work in. There's no timeframe for how long it'll take your fur babies to get along, as too there should be no expectations for them to ever be as they once were. No one wants to hear the dreaded "rehome" word and while this MAY be a last resort, if it is in the best interest of your cats, we should be aiming to get them to a point where they can, at the very least, tolerate each other enough to share a household rather than living in a warzone. Even if your cats completely ignore one another, consider this a win and give yourself a well-deserved pat on the back! Over time, if they so choose, they can and will work on their bond - which it may offer some relief to say I can attest to this in my own situation. Yes, there is hope! If your cats lived in harmony once then there's every chance they will do again, even if they need a bit of help from mum or dad 😉
Have you got a similar story to tell? Cat Mum Journal is looking to gather and publish other experiences, in your own words, of how inter-cat aggression has affected the lives of you and your cats. For the sole purpose of gathering information, sharing advice and helping others. Get in touch by heading to the contact form with a brief outline of your case. I look forward to hearing your stories!
About Me
Hi, my name is Rachel and I'm a cat mum of two sweet boys, Drax and Simba. I started this blog to document a sudden and unexpected phase of inter-cat aggression, share advice and connect with other parents. I quickly developed a passion for feline behaviour that allowed me to understand my boys on a much deeper level. Cat Mum Journal has become more than a personal story; it's a resource providing tips and advice on how to create a happy and harmonious life for your furry friends. My mission is to create a community where we can learn and grow together and, best of all, improve the relationships we have with our cats.
